Life in Kabul

Good morning all!
I held a farewell party for my "little buddies" the other night...I enjoyed it very much but not so sure they did! I started my meds and felt like making a little sign to wear around my neck..."No Free Room and Board!".
I am feeling way better and have my appetite back again. Spoke to the Chef as I can only eat food that has been boiled or cooked, nothing raw for two weeks. I had eggs cooked to order this morning...a great omelette, kinda nice. I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to everything getting back to normal.
You may recall several weeks ago I attended Barbur Gardens for a art exhibit. The exhibit included photographs taken by local students. Here are some of the pictures they took throughout the streets of Kabul. I really like them because they show what daily life in the city is like, not all doom and gloom. For the most part, folks just trying to live their lives. Of course these students can wander the streets and find some great shots...

  1. Glad to here you are getting your legs back under you. Fully experiencing a country is only a figure of speech buddy.

  2. I had a good laugh reading the header of brother Don's message on your previous post. Brings back great memories. Thanks for these pics Dave. It is comforting to see these folks are not exposed to that funky part of life 24/7. Glad you are feeling better. Take care pal.

  3. Good morning Son, so glad you are feeling better.........I think I would forget the raw food until you get home, then you can get your fix of it.........wasn't sure of brother Don's statement, he told us where it came from........Those pictures are great, give an idea of how resilient people are, life goes on......Will make you lots of cinnamon buns when you get home!! love you

  4. Hi Dave

now we know why the average person in Kabul is slim and a bit on the shorter side. The omelettes sound nice but cinnamon buns sound better.
The Rooster was a good look I reckon. Life is very different over there on many fronts, but your pictures also show that folks are very similar the world over.

If you need some help after the rapid weight loss, beer should make things better, just to stabalise the weight you know.

    Take care

  5. Thanks for all the comments of support. I can't believe the difference in how I am feeling now that I am on Meds.

Don's line about "that ain't nothin" made me laugh out loud...and I keep laughing about now.

It goes back to our bike trip in Daytona where we ran into a couple of real characters. One guy, no matter what you said, his reply was always the same..."that ain't nothin!". Then he would launch into a long story, topping yours of course.

    Good one Don!
