Jamaica - Part 2

I was going through my Jamaica pictures trying to decide which ones to post and it really jumped out at me just how vastly diverse our world is. Quite simply, all the pictures from Jamaica are green and the ones from Afghanistan are brown. What a difference....didn't even need to enlarge the photo's, one quick glance and it was readily apparent where they were taken.

I have included pictures of the "Honeymoon Cottage" where we stayed. The cottage was split into four seperate suites and we shared a small private pool in the back. Each morning Debra and I would have a cup of coffee on the patio and take in the amazing sights and sounds of Jamaica. Then we would make our way down to the main manor and decide if we were going to spend the day beside the pool or the beach....what a great trip.

  1. The Honeymoon cottage could be a house in England.....What beautiful photos.........After going over the comments in the last blog, wonder just how my five kids, or I should say children (my Father always used to correct me, he said kids are baby goats) grew up all intact........Memories, great......

  3. Hey Steve, that was exactly what I was thinking when I saw those knee pads. Now really were you peddling that fast that you needed knee pads? I must say it looks really nice where you went. Was it an all exclusive?

    Take care

  4. Hello everyone,

Jamaica was paradise.People were friendly and the resort was 1st class.Yes Kathy it was an all inclusive.Food, drinks, entertainment, water sports all included.

The Bike tour was run by an independant tour group.
I understood why we had to put on the gear though.
Dave and My bikes were both bent at the wheels and our brakes bearly worked.I could barely get speed up because the entire bike wobbled side to side.
The tour guide said"If I see you taking off any of your safety equipment your off the ride and back on the bus."
I guess it is cheaper to have us put on old ,smelly used gear then buy new modern bikes.
But dont get me wrong..we very much enjoyed the ride through the villages. We got to see 1st hand how locals live.Alot of poverty.Homes have been passed down through generations. Each new family tries to improve it with little means.
We never complained about the bikes....Not even once.

All the best for the New Year....

June is fast approaching...and Dave will be back:):):):)

  5. Great comments, Debra! Marg and I were in Ocho Rios about 8 years ago. Did you climb the falls? I was first to the top in our group...had you been there I'd have been second of course.
I also remember the desperate poverty in the towns and villages in Jamaica, but the people do the best they can with what they've got...a really cheerful bunch.
Glad you and Dave had some quality time together. Take it easy Dave and stay safe.

  6. Hi Dave

with all that padding on, I thought you might be trying out your Street Hockey skills on the locals.

did you see any "jive turkeys" in Jamica. Their cricket team is famous here for being full of cool dudes who talk fluent Jive.

i was just educating "Jeckell" on You tube with the Monty Python fat man sketch. You know, the one. "One more sliver of meat sir. It is waifer thin" is john Cleese as the waiter, and then he vomits every where. Classy stuff.

Meanwhile "heckell's" music taste has developed in to a wide variety of KISS. Thats right, the make up kings KISS. I hope he does not see too much of the history of Gene Simmonds.

I have tried to slip some john cougar in there, or some U2. No good. I tried to slip some Aussie classics like Midnight Oil, Jimmy Barnes, INXS, australian Crawl, he keeps coming back to KISS.

We did receive a few phone calls from Crystal and Claus from Western Australia, which is where they spent 2 to 3 weeks after they left us in melbourne. Glad they were over in the West and not up north.

while they were with us in Melbourne, there was a news report of a town called Geraldton in northenr WA getting 1 metre of water in a few days. amazing stuff, even if the measurement was half true. It appears to have run off into the ocean with out the damage we have seen in the East coast.

You may have seen the footage of the floods here. The footage of the cars getting pushed down the main street was a town called Toowoomba, which is about 1500 feet above sea level. By the time all that water got down to sea level, it must have picked up great speed and caused damage everywhere. Tragic on many levels.

Here's hoping that the next few months go quickly for Dave. You can have green memories while looking at the dusty streets of Kabul.

    Regards
